TROFINETIDE (troe FIN e tide) treats Rett syndrome, a genetic condition that affects the way the brain develops. It works by decreasing inflammation in the brain. It also helps nerve cells send messages to the brain. These messages help guide body functions, such as movement and breathing. This decreases symptoms and improves the ability to speak, move, and walk.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

Take this medication by mouth. Take it as directed on the prescription label at the same time every day. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. Keep taking it unless your care team tells you to stop.
This medication must be dissolved in cold to room temperature water or water-based drink, such as juice, tea, lemonade, or liquid hydration. Your care team will tell you how many packets and how much liquid you need for each dose. Empty the entire contents of the packets needed for your dose into the measured liquid. Then, stir the mixture until the powder dissolves. Drink the mixture right away. Do not store it for later.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 2 years for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.

This medication may affect how other medications work. Talk with your care team about all the medications you take. They may suggest changes to your treatment plan to lower the risk of side effects and to make sure your medications work as intended.

Visit your care team for regular checks on your progress. Tell your care team if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.
If you take laxatives, stop taking them before you start this medication.
This medication can cause diarrhea, which can be severe. Talk to your care team right away if you have diarrhea. Your care team may prescribe medication to help treat diarrhea.
Make sure you stay hydrated while taking this medication. Drink water often. Eat fruits and veggies that have a high water content. Drink more water when it is hot or you are active.

If you miss a dose, skip it. Take your next dose at the normal time. Do not take double or extra doses.
If you vomit after taking your dose, do not take another dose. Take your next dose at your normal time.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Dehydration—increased thirst, dry mouth, feeling faint or lightheaded, headache, dark yellow or brown urine
-Diarrhea
-Weight loss
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Loss of appetite
-Vomiting

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
To get rid of medications that are no longer needed or have expired:
-Take the medication to a take-back program. Check with your pharmacy or law enforcement to find a location.
-If you cannot return the medication, check the label or package insert to see if the medication should be thrown out in the garbage or flushed down the toilet. If you are not sure, ask your care team. If it is safe to put it in the trash, empty the medication out of the container. Mix it with cat litter, dirt, coffee grounds, or another unwanted substance. Seal the mixture in a bag or container. Put it in the trash.
