DIPHENHYDRAMINE (dye fen HYE dra meen) treats the symptoms of an allergic reaction. It works by blocking histamine, a substance released by the body during an allergic reaction. It may also be used to prevent and treat motion sickness or the symptoms of Parkinson disease. It belongs to a group of medications called antihistamines.
