LOMITAPIDE (loe MI ta pide) treats high cholesterol. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by your body. Changes to diet and exercise are often combined with this medication.

  • Lomitapide 5mg, Oral capsule

    Interaction: Grapefruit juice
    Severity: Severe
    Notes for Consumers: Do not take drink grapefruit juice while taking lomitapide. Grapefruit juice may increase the amount of lomitapide in your body and increase the risk for serious side effects from lomitapide.
    Notes for Professionals: Grapefruit juice must be omitted from the diet during lomitapide therapy. Grapefruit juice inhibits the enterocyte CYP3A4 isoenzyme and may decrease lomitapide metabolism.
  • Lomitapide 5mg, Oral capsule

    Interaction: Alcohol
    Severity: Major
    Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication increases the risk of liver injury. Contact your care team right away if you experience right upper belly pain, loss of appetite, nausea, light-colored stool, dark yellow or brown urine, yellowing skin or eyes, or unusual weakness or fatigue.
    Notes for Professionals: Alcohol may increase levels of hepatic fat and induce or exacerbate liver injury. Patients taking lomitapide should not consume more than one alcohol-containing drink per day.
