• Interaction: Tobacco• Severity: Major• Notes for Consumers: Do not smoke or use tobacco products while taking this medication. When used together, your medication may not work as well for you.• Notes for Professionals: The initial and maximal recommended istradefylline dosage in patients who smoke 20 or more cigarettes per day (or the equivalent amount of another tobacco product) is 40 mg once daily. Tobacco smoking has been observed to decrease istradefylline overall exposure by 38% to 54% which may reduce its efficacy.
