TERAZOSIN (ter AY zoe sin) treats high blood pressure. It works by relaxing blood vessels, which decreases the amount of work the heart has to do. It may also be used to treat symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). It also relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder, which makes it easier to urinate. It belongs to a group of medications called alpha blockers.

    Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication increases the risk for dangerously low blood pressure. Contact your care team right away if you experience dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, or blurry vision.
    Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid alcohol consumption while taking alpha-blockers. Concomitant use may increase the risk for hypotension.
