This medication does not kill the virus and it may still be possible to spread the virus to others. It will not treat colds, the flu, or infections caused by bacteria.

    • Notes for Consumers: Side effects might get worse if you take this drug with grapefruit juice. Your prescriber may decide that taking these drugs together will benefit you. If you experience a worsening of side effects, contact your health care professional.
    • Notes for Professionals: Caution is advised when administering tenofovir, PMPA, a P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrate, concurrently with inhibitors of P-gp, such as grapefruit juice. Coadministration may result in increased absorption of tenofovir. Monitor for tenofovir-associated adverse reactions.
