ALPROSTADIL (al PROS ta dil) treats erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, which helps to maintain an erection.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

This medication is injected into the penis. You will be taught how to prepare and give it. Use exactly as directed. Make sure that the needle is not bent before using this medication. Do not try to straighten or use bent needles. Do not take your medication more often than directed.
It is important that you put your used needles and syringes in a special sharps container. Do not put them in a trash can. If you do not have a sharps container, call your pharmacist or care team to get one.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. It is not approved for use in children.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

-Medications for blood pressure
This list may not describe all possible interactions. Give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Also tell them if you smoke, drink alcohol, or use illegal drugs. Some items may interact with your medicine.

Contact your care team right away if you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours or if it becomes painful. This may be a sign of a serious problem and must be treated right away to prevent permanent damage.
Do not change the dose of your medication. Call your care team to determine if your dose needs to be changed.
Using this medication does not protect you or your partner against HIV infection or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

You should not use this medication more than 3 times a week. Each dose should be given at least 24 hours apart.

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Hardening or thickening of tissue at injection site
-Heart attack—pain or tightness in the chest, shoulders, arms, or jaw, nausea, shortness of breath, cold or clammy skin, feeling faint or lightheaded
-Heart rhythm changes—fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, chest pain, trouble breathing
-Low blood pressure—dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, blurry vision
-Prolonged or painful erection
-Stroke—sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, trouble speaking, confusion, trouble walking, loss of balance or coordination, dizziness, severe headache, change in vision
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report these to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Pain, redness, irritation, or bruising at the injection site

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
Caverject: Store unopened product at or below 25 degrees C (77 degrees F). Do not freeze. See product instructions for storage when product is in use. Different products may have different instructions for storage. Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
Edex: Store unopened product between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F). Do not freeze. See product instructions for storage when product is in use. Get rid of any unused medication after the expiration date.
When traveling, do not store this medication in checked luggage during air travel or leave in a closed automobile.
To get rid of medications that are no longer needed or have expired:
-Take the medication to a medication take-back program. Check with your pharmacy or law enforcement to find a location.
-If you cannot return the medication, ask your pharmacist or care team how to get rid of this medication safely.
