ETHACRYNIC ACID (eth a KRIN ik AS id) reduces swelling related to heart, kidney, liver, or lung disease. It may also be used to reduce swelling caused by cancer. It helps your kidneys remove more fluid and salt from your blood through the urine. It belongs to a group of medications called diuretics.
This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.

This medication is injected into a vein. It is given in a hospital or clinic.
Talk to your care team about the use of this medication in children. While it may be prescribed for children as young as 1 year for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.

This medication may interact with the following:
-Antiinflammatory medications like indomethacin
-Certain antibiotics given by injection
-Diuretics
-Heart medications like digoxin
-Hormones like cortisone, fludrocortisone, or hydrocortisone
-Lithium
-Medications for diabetes
-Medications for high blood pressure
-Warfarin

Side effects that you should report to your care team as soon as possible:
-Allergic reactions—skin rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
-Dehydration—increased thirst, dry mouth, feeling faint or lightheaded, headache, dark yellow or brown urine
-Hearing loss, ringing in ears
-Low blood pressure—dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, blurry vision
-Low potassium level—muscle pain or cramps, unusual weakness or fatigue, fast or irregular heartbeat, constipation
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your care team if they continue or are bothersome):
-Burning or tingling sensation in hands or feet
-Diarrhea
-Headache
-Nausea
