• Interaction: Cannabis• Severity: Major• Notes for Consumers: Discuss cannabis use with your care team. The effects of your medication may be altered if used with cannabis. Call emergency services right away if you experience slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, or trouble staying awake.• Notes for Professionals: Advise patients to avoid cannabis use while taking CNS depressants due to the risk for additive CNS depression and potential for other cognitive adverse reactions. -
Eszopiclone 3mg, Oral tablet
• Interaction: Alcohol• Severity: Major• Notes for Consumers: Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. Drinking alcohol while taking this medication can cause serious side effects, such as central nervous system (CNS) depression and drowsiness the day after use, and can increase the risk of falling. Call emergency services right away if you experience symptoms of CNS depression: slow or shallow breathing, shortness of breath, feeling faint, dizziness, confusion, trouble staying awake.• Notes for Professionals: Advise patients not to use eszopiclone if they drank alcohol that evening or before bed. An additive effect on psychomotor performance was seen with coadministration of eszopiclone and alcohol. Concomitant use may also increase the risk for next-day impairment. -

• Interaction: Caffeine-containing Foods/Beverages• Severity: Moderate• Notes for Consumers: Caffeine is a stimulant and may keep you awake when taken at night. Avoid Caffeine-containing beverages or products prior to going to bed since Caffeine can decrease the ability of Eszopiclone to help you sleep.• Notes for Professionals: In general, patients taking medications for insomnia should not use caffeine-containing products including medications, dietary supplements (e.g., guarana), and beverages (e.g., coffee, green tea, other teas, or colas) prior to going to bed as these products, theoretically, may pharmacodynamically antagonize the sedative effects of eszopiclone.
